Genetic Biologist records commentary for Jurassic Park!
Posted by Jack DLM – Wednesday 28 November 2012 at 06:45PM – 4 Comments
Recently I was contacted by Jason from the company Scholar Tracks and he informed me that they have recently recorded their own commentary for our favourite film, Jurassic Park.
Scholar Tracks are a small company based out of Ohio and have just released an audio commentary for Jurassic Park by a Genetic Biologist, Todd Dehm. He has an MA in Biology from the Sam Houston University and has performed years of genetic research, most recently at the noteable Jack Labratory, and is currently in the process of opening his own labratory for privately contracted genetic testing. During the commentary he discusses his scientific opinions on the realism of the film, personal anecdotes, and predictions for the future.
The commentary is currently available on iTunes, Amazon and Zune stores for $2.99.
Sounds like it’s worth the price, so check it out!
Long time reader Asees tweeted Kennedy/Marshall’s Twitter account, asking simply “Jurassic Park 4?”. What’s great, is whoever manages that account replied, stating that it’s “in the works” and provided a link to a Collider article from July where Frank Marshall states that Jurassic Park IV is aiming for 2014 release date.
They also put a hashtag to #JurassicPark4 which is what I’ve been using on our Twitter account for a while now.
So what does this mean? Is the film still scripting? Has it reached pre-production? If it had then Universal would have greenlit it by now. It’s very confusing as to exactly what’s going on but it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll actually make the 2014 release date that Frank Marshall aimed for.
And that’s unfortunate.
It could be that Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy don’t have much to do with the account and whoever runs it is just going by the same news we know.
Thanks to Asees for the heads up, and hopefully we’ll get some new JPIV information to make our Christmas!
Yahoo! caught up with 33 year old actress/artist Ariana Richards – who played Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park and returned briefly for The Lost World. After Jurassic Park, she disappeared from the acting world and went to college to get her degree in drama and fine art. She has now stated that she’ll be returning to the world of acting.
“I went to college. I had to put a hold on acting and auditioning. I went to college to get my degree in drama and fine art,” she explained. “Then right after I [graduated from college, the whole art thing kicked off (she won the US National Professional Oil Painting Competition in 2005). It was amazing. Some people don’t know that as well as acting, I also love art and I am a painter.”
This obviously means that if the part was written, she could return for Jurassic Park IV, which is being written right now by Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. A few years ago it was reported that the character of Lex Murphy was the lead in one of the many scripts, but we’re not sure if this idea will return for what Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver are currently writing.
Stay tuned for more JPIV related news.
After the recent find of new pieces of concept art for the retired Jurassic Park IV script – named ‘Dinosaurs with Guns, ScreenRant contact ILM to find out if the concept art was real. Even though the concept art by Carlos Haunte, found about two years ago is real (he stated this himself), the new pieces are from another artist, Andrew Cawrse which feature the ILM logo.
ILM were quick to respond, stating that it’s not from a production they’ve worked on.
“Not sure where this stuff came from but it’s not from a production we’ve worked on. Looks like someone’s personal work – ILM doesn’t put © lines on our work like in those images – we don’t own the work – the clients do.”
There could be a number of things this could mean. The obvious is that they’re telling the truth and ILM didn’t work as far as we thought on this JPIV script. But there’s that part of me, and others, that think ILM could be embarrassed that they worked on something like this and want to hide the idea. Who knows? It doesn’t really matter though since both Joe Johnston and Frank Marshall have confirmed that this script is long gone.
Four new pieces of concept art for old JPIV Script
Posted by Jack DLM – Sunday 07 October 2012 at 11:30PM – 0 Comments
Robotpo and Demoncarnotaur from JPLegacy forums found some new pieces of concept art from the old Jurassic Park IV script (2004 era) which involved genetially mutated dinosaurs mixed with dog and human DNA. The original artwork was drawn by the artist, Carlos Haunte who drew the previous images we’ve seen.
The other two images are of a 3D sculpture by Andrew Cawrse.
What’s really amazing about these images is it shows us how far into production the Jurassic Park IV script by John Sayles and William Monahan actually got.
ComingSoon.net got the chance to speak with producer Kathleen Kennedy about a couple of upcoming projects, the main being Jurassic Park IV. Kathleen Kennedy has produced all three Jurassic Park films and is producing Jurassic Park IV with her husband, Frank Marshall.
“Writing, writing, writing, it’s really hard to keep these things going when there’s an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going. As filmmakers, we often sit there going, ‘Okay. We have to answer the question, ‘Why do another one?” If you can’t answer that question, you shouldn’t be doing it. It’s tough. We’re trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn’t going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We’ve got to start with a script and the story.”
It seems that the movie is still in a busy writing stage with Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, but she states that they are having issues (once again) coming up with the groundbreaking idea that Spielberg claimed they have.
“[The studio] is just like, ‘When?!'” Kennedy laughs. “They don’t care about the agony we’re going through!”
It’s very clear that Universal Studios are eagerly awaiting this movie and Frank Marshall has stated the 2014 release date, but it does not seem likely that 2014 will happen if they are still trying to crack the story. Kathleen Kennedy seems positive about the script, which is good, but things don’t seem to be moving along as swiftly as we expected them to be and there seems to be a few crossed wires with other recent news that we’ve been hearing.
Thanks for the tip Ryan!
In an email reply to JPLegacy forum user Sandhu – Jack Horner stated (when asked about JPIV’s status) that he recently heard from Joe Johnston who said to him that he heard somebody was writing the script but he did not know who. He did not confirm Joe Johnston was directing the film but we could assume this would be the case considering he directed JP3 and Spielberg and Universal like him.
Jack Horner also said that he believes Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver are still writing the script as they were the last people he spoke with, but he is “not in the loop” until they ask him to be. So it may be the case that other writers have been brought in. We do not know at this point in time.
Hopefully we will be hearing something official in the near future.
JPLegacy user Sandhu got in contact with technical advisor for the Jurassic Park films, Jack Horner, and asked him about the current status of Jurassic Park IV.
Unfortunately Jack Horner isn’t seeming too positive at the moment. He says the movie has kind of slowed production and that he doesn’t expect a 2014 release date.

So don’t expect it by 2014?

I haven’t heard from anyone for quite a while so I guess it’s slowed down at least.

Is it true that work on Jurassic Park 4 has stopped again?
If not, can we expect fully feathered velociraptors and non feathered ones too?
Thanks or your time
This is bad news for us, but it might not be correct information. The film might still be writing, which might mean that the writers don’t need Jack Horner at this time. But if that is the case, then 2014 is pushing it for a release.
Asees Sandhu pointed this in my direction, ComingSoon got the exclusive chance to speak to screenwriter David Koepp about Jurassic Park IV. David Koepp is known for writing the first Jurassic Park and it’s sequel, The Lost World, among other films. They were curious as to whether or not he would be involved with the sequel.
“We did talk about it and if I thought I had a great idea, I’d sign up in a minute but I did the first two and two movies on one subject is a lot, ‘cause it’s hard enough to do one movie on a subject. I did two and I just felt like I used up all my good ideas and if I had something really valuable to contribute, I’d love to, ’cause I love those guys and I had a great time doing those movies. I just felt like I never had very much to give to it.”
It seems like he’s doing the wise thing and letting others take the reins on Jurassic Park IV, especially since they are trying for a new approach to the franchise.
I finally was able to get the main website working. For some reason a while back the script I use to get the news displayed on the website from the forum packed up and decided not to work. I’ve had problems with it before, and since there’s pretty much no online support anymore from the creator, I’ve decided to go with something else.
Anyway, this now works and while I was waiting until the new website is ready to use this news/blogging software, the main website was looking ugly with the news not working, so I’ve decided to start early. You can now comment on these articles without using the forum. The forum is still active however!
As for Jurassic Park IV – the rumour I posted yesterday is fake, and actually came from another JP4 fan website. It was a fan’s idea for Jurassic Park IV, so unless I hear otherwise the rumour is fake and we can forget about the space idea.
Let me know if you have any problems with the news system and of course if you hear anything Jurassic Park IV related!
