Vote Now: Jurassic World Dino Battles ‘March Madness’!

It’s March Madness, and that means bracket polls and online voting.

Inspired by the official Jurassic World ‘Jurassic Battles’, we decided to spice up the variety and make things more difficult (for starters, not pairing off the battles by those already in the films with winners).

Vote Now!

Choose your favorites, or who you think would win logically – there is no wrong way to votes! Our poll notably includes some ‘Jurassic Park’ favorites like Dilophosaurus and Spinosaurus, and is sure to challenge fans with their picks. So what are you waiting for? Round one ends on March 24th, and the finals conclude on the 31st!

Of course, we couldn’t feature every species – and while we love the Mosasaurus, including her just seemed unfair for the competition. Be sure to come back and vote for every round – and as always, stay tuned for everything Jurassic!

Rumor: Netflix Temporarily Lists Mysterious ‘Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous’ Title

Could Netflix and Universal Pictures be partnering up to bring some original content to the home screen? That’s the question we’re asking after a mysterious new title temporarily appeared on Netflix. Spotted by Twitter users @nsjstuff and @derekzrncic, ‘Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous‘ was listed on Netflix for a limited time.

While nothing is known about the title in question, it is corroborated by three trademarks Universal filed in December 2018.

‘Camp Cretaceous’ was tagged as a ‘show’ under the ‘Sci-fi & fantasy’ genre, and its related titles were Netflix originals – however, considering the unorthodox nature of this reveal, and uncertainty of what Camp Cretaceous is, those tags may not reflect accurate information. Considering titles like ‘LEGO Jurassic World: The Indominus Escape’ are on Netflix, and the LEGO ‘Legend of Isla Nublar’ mini-series coming later this year, it could be a similar title (however, it’s worth noting those particular projects don’t have corresponding trademarks, suggesting this may be something more.)

It’s also worth noting that if this project is something that is exclusive to Netflix, it wouldn’t be unheard of for Universal Pictures, who have a Fast and the Furious animated series from DreamWorks Animation hitting the platform later this year. In fact, while discussing the ‘Fast and the Furious’ animated show, Margie Cohn, the president of DreamWorks Animation Television had this to say:

“We are excited to extend and expand our successful relationship with Netflix by not only delivering more high-quality DreamWorks programming, but connecting fans of Universal films with fascinating new stories. Our new home at Universal marks an exciting new chapter for storytelling at our studio, and Fast & Furious is only the beginning.

Ultimately, while ‘Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous’ is something that is coming considering the corresponding trademarks, its relation to the Netflix reveal should be taken with a grain of salt. The listing on the platform has already been removed, indicating that the information it suggested could very well have been placeholder, and not representative of a title releasing on Netflix. However, we’re certainly excited to learn more, and are crossing our fingers that the Jurassic Park franchise will continue to expand to exciting new territory.

What do you think ‘Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous’ is, and what type of new content would you like to see from the series as it continues to evolve? Sound off in the comments below, and as always, stay tuned for the latest news!

Lego Unveils ‘Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar’ Mini-Series and New Tie-In Sets!

Kicking off New York Toy Fair 2019 with a roar, Lego and Universal Brand Development have announced a followup to last years ‘The Secret Exhibit’ titled ‘Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar’! This new mini series will take place in 2012, three years before the events of Jurassic World, and have a 13 episode long run filled with dinosaurs, drama, but most of all, zany comedy only Lego can deliver.

Set in 2012, three years before the events of the Jurassic World movie, LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar picks up where the story left off from LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit. Newly hired animal behaviorist Owen Grady and Assistant Manager of Park Operations Claire Dearing team up on Isla Nublar to deal with everything the Jurassic World park throws their way. And “everything” includes runaway dinosaurs, ongoing construction to expand the park, tourists everywhere, unpredictable tropical weather, and an impulsive boss! Plus, a mysterious saboteur with surprising ties to the park’s past is on a quest to find a legendary treasure and destroy Jurassic World forever! What could possibly go wrong? Everything.

It’s clear that the mysterious saboteur will be none other than Dennis Nedry’s own nephew, Danny Nedermeyer, who was up to no good in the control room during ‘The Secret Exhibit’. That plot thread was left wide open, and while this series is no doubt not canon, I’m looking forward to seeing it all play out. The series debuts later this year, though an exact date has yet to be revealed.

Moving on from the mini-series, and to what fans have really been hopeful for, Lego have also revealed four new sets which tie into the ‘Legend of Isla Nublar’. One thing is for certain – some of these sets are sure to surprise!

Dilophosaurus on the Loose

Explore LEGO Jurassic World with Owen Grady and build his drone to look after the dinosaurs. Meet Hudson Harper, a kid who knows everything there is to know about dinosaurs. And build the market stall in the shape of a dinosaur head with LEGO bricks. But look out—a young Dilophosaurus has escaped and is creeping up behind Hudson. Fly to the rescue with Owen’s drone, fire the net shooter and capture that dinosaur. Every day is an adventure with this action-packed LEGO playset!
Ages 6+, 168 pieces, $19.99 (USD)

Baryonyx Face-Off: The Treasure Hunt

Rush to stop Danny Nedermeyer and Sinjin Prescott’s dangerous treasure hunt in LEGO Jurassic World! According to legend, there is treasure hidden on Isla Nublar and Danny and Sinjin have a map and old videotape to help them find it. But when a Baryonyx dinosaur thinks they are trying to steal her fish, they have to hide out in an old trailer. Help Owen Grady and Claire Dearing fix up the off-road buggy. Then drive with them and Red the dog to catch the bad guys before they steal the treasure!
Ages 7+, 434 pieces, $59.99 (USD)

Triceratops Rampage

Take a ride on the awesome new LEGO Jurassic World Egg Spinner with Simon Masrani and Allison Miles. But, watch out—there’s been a power failure and the mighty Triceratops has smashed through the fence and escaped! Jump in the buggy with Owen Grady and speed to the rescue. Dangle a carrot in front of the mighty dinosaur to distract it and save the tourist. There’s never a dull day in Jurassic World park!
Ages 7+, 447 pieces, $59.99 (USD)

T. rex vs Dino-Mech Battle

Danger! Danny Nedermeyer is roaming Jurassic World park in his huge Dino-Mech on a mission to steal the treasure hidden in the Isla Nublar volcano. But first he has to face the mighty T. rex. Jump in the boat with Owen Grady, Claire Dearing, Vic Hoskins—plus baby Velociraptors Blue, Delta, Echo and Charlie—and speed to the battle scene. Fire the boat’s stud shooters at the Dino-Mech. Put the T. rex to sleep with the tranquilizer gun. You must stop Danny before he finds a way to smash into the volcanic rock and steal the treasure!
Ages 8+, 716 pieces, $89.99 (USD)

Yes, that is a large Tyrannosaurus Rex mech colored like the Jurassic Park Ford Explorer vehicles. Does it make sense as something in the Jurassic franchise? Not one bit. Will it be amusing to watch in the mini-series, and later own as your own personal set? You bet. Another curiosity is the Baryonyx sporting four fingers and a Velociraptor-style sickle claw. Whether that indicates it’s another hybrid, an error, or a cost cutting measure to simply use the Indoraptor’s body and limbs is unknown – but either way, it creates one weird but beautifully painted looking dino.

I absolutely love the sets based around the open park – particularly the Triceratops Rampage, which is something I would like to see more of (over vehicles). Rumor has it there is one more set coming this year, a massive collector oriented direct to consumer set based upon either the Jurassic Park visitors center, or Jurassic World Innovation Center. Many fans have been eager more accurate representations of the parks, classic vehicles, and set pieces – while these new sets may not scratch that itch, there is hope 2019 will still deliver for them as well.

The new Lego sets are expected to hit store shelves Fall of this year.

Stay tuned, as New York Toy Fair news continues to come in over the weekend, and as always, sound off in the comments below!

Watch ‘Indomation’ – A Stop-Motion Jurassic Park Tribute!

Before Dennis Muren wowed Steven Spielberg with computer generated dinosaurs at ILM, the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park were going to animated by hand by Phil Tippett and his team, using a technique known as stop motion.

The release of Jurassic Park led to an industry shift, with this well crafted art form rapidly replaced by computer generated images. This technology opened up a world of possibilities and filmmakers of the era began to experiment.

However, the animation technique did not die out. Stop motion lives on through the likes of Phil Tippett and his Mad God series, and many modern day movies like Isle of Dogs, Coraline and the works of Aardman Animations.

A number of independent filmmakers have dived into the stop motion world, including Mason Drumm who created the following short film entitled Indomation. Check it out below:

The entire piece contains 93 hours of animation and contains 7,830 frames! The set took two months to construct, utilizing 35 sticks of glue and many, many props. A detailed behind the scenes video gives us a better look at how Mason pieced all of this together. The rotating set is ingenious – so simple yet so effective.

Click the above picture to watch the 10 minute behind the scenes feature – I recommend you do! Stop motion is a slow process and one that takes immense concentration and attention to detail. To say he was the sole animator on Indomation, Mason’s animation is fluid, and it’s clear that he had a vision for this project from the very beginning – one that he executed with great finesse.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of his work. Be sure to check out Mason’s YouTube channel and let him know if you liked his short film by commenting below!
