There are three distinct variations of Velociraptor which were cloned by InGen, not counting sexual dimorphism seen within each individual version. However, despite the surface level variations, each sub-species remains relatively similiar in terms of physical attributes. Each species is roughly 6 feet tall…

Perhaps the most exciting parts of the reveals above is the look at the Amber Collection box art, which takes a more minimalistic and streamlined approach to packaging design, though is more complex in texture detail when compared to the Star Wars Black Series from Hasbro. One of the choices I like the most is rather than using the complex full film logo, it’s simply the round Rex logo with amber inspired styling, giving the overall presentation a much more refined look.

Velociraptor Charlie is the other big reveal, as she was not announced by Mattel at SDCC, and seems to be planned for release alongside Owen and Blue. While the core 3 3/4″ line didn’t handle the Raptor Squad very well, messing up both Delta’s and Charlie’s colors, the Amber Collection has absolutely nailed it. Her color scheme is complex, accurate, and striking looking.

It’s clear the Amber Collection is shaping up to be a collectors series worthy of Jurassic Park, and we cannot wait to go hands on when the first toys release later this year!

What are your thoughts on the new reveals, and what characters do you hope make it to the Amber Collection in the future? Sound off in the comments below, and stay tuned – we have many more Mattel reveals, including a look at new Primal Attack toys coming later this week!

  1. Looks great, love the Charlie and blue ,will go well with beasts of the Mesozoic figures,as these are the jp version and botm are what raptors looked like ie feathered . Hopefully we get an indominus rex, indoraptor, and t rex for the Amber collection

    1. Where’s all this proof of feathers? As far as I recall, no Raptor showed any evidence of feathering until 20 years later when some other specimen had markings around it that people claimed were feathers, or proto-feathers. Whatever. Never mind none of the specimens dug up prior had any indication of being feathered, otherwise they’d have been depicted with them from the start… Right?

Meanwhile you have “Trey the science-dodger” stamping his feet about feathered Tyrannosaurs when there is LITERALLY SOLID PROOF THAT THEY HAD SCALES! And NOTHING but imagination to suggest they had feathers! So he back-tracks and claims that “oh, the feathers were on it’s back and head”… Sure they were, champ. Because the skin impressions we found didn’t come from those areas… Way to keep the dream alive, buddy.

      1. Velociraptor has quill gnobs on it’s arms were wing feathers like primaries attach to the second and third digit , so yes this is confirmed velociraptor was feathered . Also there are several full body fossils of microraptor, sinorthosaurus, anchiornis and zeyenlong that preserve the feathers . Then there’s the feather gnobs on Dakotaraptor, all well preserved fossils of raptors show feathers not scales! Jp lied

      2. The proof of feathers for maniraptors is inmence ,for velociraptor we know from the preservation of feather quill gnobs on the arms running up to the second & third digit ,exactly like the quill gnobs on bird wings ,forming feathered wings . More proof comes from the quill gnobs on Dakotaraptor ,a giant 16 ft long dromeosaurs discovered in 2015 in hell Creek ,which means this animal also had feathers & wings . Then we have fossils like microraptor which preserves feathers covering the whole body and posseing not just 2 feathered wings but four ,ie the back legs form wings . Another four winged raptor is sinorthosaurus with incredible preservation of the organs and muscles as well. Finally we have zeyenlong ,also found in 2015 in China , which preserves imprints of feathers on the tail, neck and feathered wings on the arms, and zeyenlong is unmaskable as a velociraptor like animal . So all maniraptors that are preserved with soft tissue ,show feathers not scales except for on the feet . And yes, tyrannosaur s had feathers ,lookup yutyrannus

    2. I would have liked just for the velociraptors of “JURASSIC WORLD: AMBER COLLECTION”: the smaller feet and perhaps the jaws a little longer. I hope so much that Mattel will do the same with the t-rex of Jurassic World, The Lost World and JP3 (although they will be the same size as the “Super Colossal Tyrannosaurus Rex”) as long as they respect the proportions like the size of the feet and the head compared to the rest of the body (so not big feet especially); as well as with the male raptor of JP3 where it would be necessary to just change the colors, the head and add thorns or proto feathers behind the head.

  2. Really happy to see the Charlie reveal, can’t wait to see Delta and especially Echo.
But also makes wonder dinosaurs could be on the horizon.
At minimum more legacy color schemes(jp3 female!)

Even being a JW fan, Owen fatigue is a real thing, so I hope retailers don’t go overboard there.

    1. “But also makes wonder dinosaurs could be on the horizon.
At minimum more legacy color schemes(jp3 female!)”

Oh man, I would LOVE to have some Amber Collection-style JP3 Raptors. Favorite Raptor types by far for me.

  3. These look really good! The Raptors’ feet are a little too big, but the sculpt, paint, and articulation look absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to pick ’em up.

But let’s be honest here. That stand design is…unfortunate, to put it lightly…

  4. I would like they make other dinosaur figures (Indoraptor, Rexy, Spinosaurus, Stiggy, Triceratops, Indominus rex etc). Or humans (Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, Claire Dearing).

  5. I absolutely love the look of this line! Im very excited about Owen, and Charlie is a big surprise, Im so glad to see her. A T-rex will be awesome, but I wonder if the costs would make it possible. I’d love a Carnotaurus and a Baryonyx too.

I’ve read some harsh comments about the repaints and some complains about the raptors proportions, and seriously, I don’t get it. Dudes, the figures are gorgeous! People should not be that picky. Look what happened to the collectors of Masters of The Universe: they made many bad comments about the upcoming figures based on the MOTU movie for not being “accurate enough” and for a repainted figure, and this week we had the news that those figures will never be released. It took 32 years for have some nice looking prototypes, and picky fans ruined it.

We must be happy to see such a beautiful figures! Especially after 14 years without jurassic figures, and that JW Hasbro line! Don’t be offended is just my opinion.
