“Jurassic World” Attraction to Replace Jurassic Park: The Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood!

The rumors are true – the Jurassic Park river adventure attraction, beloved by many at both Universal Studios Hollywood and its sister park, Universal Studios Orlando, will be leaving the original park this fall. Replacing it? A brand new Jurassic World attraction!

Universal Studios Hollywood announced the departure of the original ride on the Twitter on May 10th, with a short video saying that “extinction is coming”, but that, as we all know, “life finds a way”. The video, featuring promotional clips from Jurassic Park: The Ride and footage of a CGI tyrannosaurus rex, detailed not only the closing of the original ride, but the opening of a brand new Jurassic World section of the park.

The video did not give any details about the Jurassic World attraction itself, but announced that it will be coming to Universal Studios Hollywood sometime in 2019. The Jurassic Park: River Adventure at Universal Studios Orlando will remain unchanged.

According to the announcement, the last day of operation for Jurassic Park: The Ride will be September 3rd, 2018, so local folks, ride it while you can! And stay tuned to Jurassic Outpost for more updates in the future.

What do you think about this new Jurassic World attraction? Are you excited for it? Are you sad to see the original Jurassic Park attraction go? Let us know in the comments below!

    1. Universal announced on their website that the ride is staying a river adventure that will include appearances by the mosasaur and the indominous Rex. Culminating with a battle between Rexy and Irex before plunging 50 feet.

  1. I’v been going for over 20+ years and it was a big part of my childhood and I have many nostalgic memories. Ive seen it at its best and its worst lol. The ride while classic definitely needs a remodel. If that takes the form of JW then I’m game. Respect the classics, look forward to the future.

  2. It’s going to be sad that the original version of the ride is closing the gate on guests. But, I hope that the new attraction does not rely too much on screens as Universal heavily incorporates them in their rides. Jurassic was nice because it had a natural feel to the experience. Let’s hope it’s legacy is carried on.

    1. If Universal still wants to do screen-based rides, I would suggest, they make a VR Pteranodon Flyers family coaster so that we get a “Flying Reptile’s” Eye View of Isla Nublar in all its entirety. They could even do a thing like Mission Space at EPCOT with Green and Orange teams. The green equivalent would be the family-friendly island flyover, while the orange equivalent would be escaping Mt. Sibo’s eruption event.

      1. Man, that is a beautiful idea! I can just imagine. Giving it the flight of Passage route. If only the exects at Universal were listening!

        1. Yeah, a Flight of Passage version would be great too! I went on it last December and I was blown away. Hopefully, Universal really makes something memorable for the love of all things Jurassic!

  3. Just had a minor heart attack until I heard that it was only Hollywood, because I’m going to the Orlando park this fall to visit the Jurassic Park ride for the first time. I would like to see it at least once before it turns into a Jurassic World ride.

  4. Unchanged for Orlando?!?!?!?! Oh well I’ll still be happy with the movies including the new one coming on my birthday!!!!! I’ll go to the one in Florida when the time is right!!!!!

  5. 2019 . . . so, something they’re hoping the influx of Star Wars Land tourists will add to their itineraries.

  6. “the last day of operation for Jurassic Park: The Ride will be September 3rd, 2018”

funny, one day later from my birthday

  7. I’ve been lucky enough to ride both of them and actually prefer the Hollywood version. I remember when this opened and I’d see ads for it in comic books. Being a poor kid in the middle of Kansas, I knew I could never go. When I finally did get to visit Universal (Orlando first) I remember my hotel room key doubled as a fast pass and I rode that ride about 6 times in a row. I’ll miss these epic rides but look forward to the update. I just hope it’s a practical ride and not the 3D video rides they’ve been moving too.

  8. What a shame…
They shuld take out one of the really old rides and replace it with Jurassic World The Ride so that way we have 2 Jurassic Rides

  9. I liked that they fixed and repainted the skins covering the animatronics for JP25, but I agree that a remodel may be overdue. I do hope they keep some of the finer details and allow us to experience both the shiny, new Jurassic World features and the nostalgia of Jurassic Park
