It has been reported that Spielberg and the studio are very happy with the script, which is several drafts in, and as such are very protective of it and do not want the story meddled with. According to The Hollywood Reporter and Jeff Sneider, Spielberg is more involved this time as he does not want a repeat of &#8216;Jurassic World Dominion&#8217;, and became worried the series would follow the trajectory of the Transformers films becoming bigger and dumber with each installment.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pre-production is expected to begin at Sky Studios in the UK at the end of this month, with filming starting in June. Koepp was the writer of the original 1993 <em><a href=\"https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/jurassic-park-review-1993-movie-802289/\">Jurassic Park</a></em>, famously directed by Steven Spielberg, and its sequel, 1997’s <em><a href=\"https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/jurassic-park/\">Jurassic Park</a>: The Lost World</em>.</p><p>The project, which has been flying under the radar, is far enough along, and the script in a well-liked shape, that the studio is whispering of a possible 2025 release date.</p><p>There is no director on board, but <a href=\"https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/frank-marshall/\">Frank Marshall</a>, the veteran and celebrated producer who oversaw the <em>Jurassic World</em> trilogy, is back producing, as is another <em>Jurassic</em> vet, Patrick Crowley. Spielberg will executive produce via his Amblin Entertainment banner.</p><p>It is unclear what form the relaunch is taking. It is known to be launching a “new Jurassic era,” per sources, with an all-new storyline. That would seem to rule out the return of the characters played by <em>Jurassic World</em> stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. And it seems characters featured in the original <em>Jurassic Park</em> movies, played by Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, would not be involved.</p><p>The fact that it’s being called a new “Jurassic World” instead of “Jurassic Park” may also be telling. That would suggest that the franchise is likely not taking a back-to-basics approach but could go to parts unknown (Jurassic Space? Just putting it out there).</p><p>The <em>Jurassic</em> franchise is a key jewel in Universal’s film history with the 1993 original movie redefining special effects and having a long-lasting impact on pop culture. The original ‘Making Of’ books from the 1990s for <a href=\"https://amzn.to/3QVk9IQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">‘Jurassic Park’</a> and <a href=\"https://amzn.to/3OT9R9g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park’</a> are regarded as some of the best ever made. In 2021, <a href=\"https://insighteditions.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Insight Editions</a> produced <a href=\"https://jurassicoutpost.com/insight-editions-jurassic-park-visual-history-book-is-released-but-is-it-ultimate/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">‘Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Visual History,’</a> featuring stories and never-before-seen imagery from the original trilogy, including ‘Jurassic Park 3’ for the first time. Their fantastic chronicle was followed by <a href=\"https://jurassicoutpost.com/jurassic-world-the-ultimate-visual-history-book-from-insight-editions-dazzles-with-fantastic-images-recollections/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">‘Jurassic World: The Ultimate Visual History,’</a> wonderfully detailing the making of all three ‘Jurassic World’ films.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>All these books discussed the various scripts that were written: a vital part in creating a strong skeleton to support the body of each film. It’s a process that can take a lot of time, and a lot of drafts, to get just right. Their creation is more interesting and complicated than people may realize, making a whole book dedicated to the subject something ‘Jurassic’ fans have wanted for some time. Each of the six films in the franchise <em>(so far)</em> undoubtedly has fascinating stories behind their screenplays. However, the original film, adapted from the <a href=\"https://amzn.to/3PYHMOn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bestselling novel</a> by Michael Crichton, had perhaps the biggest challenges.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thanks once again to Insight Editions, a documented history of this process, with the final screenplay by David Koepp, is finally told in <a href=\"http://amzn.to/3qFM9VY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>‘Jurassic Park: The Official Script Book.’</strong></a></p>\n\n\n\n<center><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"http://amzn.to/3qFM9VY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"608\" src=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPScriptBookCover-FRBA-1024x608.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21303\" srcset=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPScriptBookCover-FRBA-1024x608.jpg 1024w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPScriptBookCover-FRBA-300x178.jpg 300w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPScriptBookCover-FRBA-768x456.jpg 768w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPScriptBookCover-FRBA-1536x912.jpg 1536w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPScriptBookCover-FRBA-2048x1216.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" /></a></figure></div></center>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>Jurassic Park gave moviegoers an unforgettable thrill ride. This gives the reader an additional “alternate universe” for certain scenes. <strong>The script also includes some moments that were filmed but cut</strong>, such as the reveal of why the Triceratops was only sick “every six weeks” and not all the time.</p>\n\n\n\n<center><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-9-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21281\" srcset=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-9-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-9-300x169.jpg 300w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-9-768x432.jpg 768w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-9-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-9-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" /></figure></div></center>\n\n\n\n<p>The only part of the script not included are the “Appendices.” These were two pages at the end of the script that had John Hammond’s dialogue heard during the lunch scene as a slide show played behind the characters. Nearly every spread features an annotated section on the side, containing information that ranges from <strong>details exclusively revealed by David Koepp himself, comparisons to earlier drafts, alternate ideas from the previous screenwriters, and other behind-the-scenes intel</strong>. The added material <a href=\"https://twitter.com/JamesMottram\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">James Mottram</a> provides is written in a clear and engaging way that greatly stirs the excitement of the reader as they delve into the film’s script. One of the many exclusive quotes from <strong>Koepp explains why his original draft did not include Ian Malcolm</strong>; the mathematician who constantly is at odds with what ‘Jurassic Park’ is trying to accomplish.</p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>“Honestly, it was because it was too hard,” he admits. “If you read the book, he talks a lot. And I thought about all sorts of things.”</em></p></blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><em>INSIGHT ABOUT THE PREVIOUS SCREENWRITERS AND THEIR DRAFTS</em></strong></p>\n\n\n\n<center><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-15-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21291\" srcset=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-15-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-15-300x169.jpg 300w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-15-768x432.jpg 768w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-15-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-15-2048x1152.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" /></figure></div></center>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned, the annotations not only cover Koepp and his various drafts but also the screenwriters who tackled the film before him. <strong>Michael Crichton was the first to </strong><a href=\"https://jurassictime.wixsite.com/memoirs/michael-crichtons-jp-novel-to-screen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>adapt his own novel into a screenplay</strong></a>, producing a pair of completed drafts. One detail James conjures is how a Crichton draft opened with a scene that would later front Spielberg’s film adaptation of ‘The Lost World: Jurassic Park.’</p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>In his revised draft, Crichton opened with a variation on the novel’s second major sequence, where <strong>a young vacationer, Tina, is attacked on a deserted Costa Rican beach by a Compy</strong>. He wrote and assembled it during the production’s downtime when Steven Spielberg left to film ‘Hook.’ <a href=\"http://jurassictime.trescom.org/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jurassic Time</a> created an epic <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw8ktF5El5s&amp;list=PLIACT8MUZTgO-FkTsaFcopzuHq0dm_mxC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">“illustrated audio drama”</a> version of his take on the film, which includes a unique item most fans would certainly love: <strong>a </strong><a href=\"https://x.com/jurassicmemoirs/status/1686102801355771904\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Spitter umbrella</strong></a><strong> that squirts water from its “mouth.”</strong> Rick details the inclusion of this gag, among many other new notes.</p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>“The idea of an umbrella squirting water is pretty ridiculously funny,” says Carter. “You have this thing designed to keep the water out. It’s actually squirting water!” The concept of a branded novelty umbrella came up during brainstorming sessions, adds Carter, when he and others on the team began to consider, <strong>“How would the dinosaur experience be commercialized in that park, and that Visitor Center?”</strong></em></p></blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>James also had <strong>an exclusive conversation with Malia Scotch Marmo, the penultimate screenwriter brought on board</strong>. While she only penned a single draft as well, her ideas were still an important part of the screenwriting process until Spielberg ultimately chose another direction. Scotch Marmo even contributed to a vital casting recommendation that became a reality!</p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\"><p><em>Described in the book as “twenty-four and darkly tanned,” with her blonde hair tied back, Dr. Ellie Sattler proved to be a difficult role to cast. “Steven sent me clips of young actresses to play Ellie,” recalls Scotch Marmo. “The clips showcased the actresses in previous film roles. I noticed they were all ingénues. They had youth and a certain naïveté and freshness. I kept thinking they were missing the mark. Ellie is a scientist. Perhaps because my father was an astrophysicist, <strong>I couldn’t buy the actors he was showing me as realistic in any way . . . in a science fiction movie like Jurassic Park believability was essential</strong>. Steven is very open to push back, and he asked, ‘Who would you like?’” <strong>The writer made a case for Laura Dern</strong>, who coincidentally had impressed Spielberg in the 1985 film Smooth Talk.</em></p></blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><em>LOADS OF CONCEPT ARTWORK, STORYBOARDS, &amp; OTHER IMAGES</em></strong></p>\n\n\n<galleryblock\n data-cover-image=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-21-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-1=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-3-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-2=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-4-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-3=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-6-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-4=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-7-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-5=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-8-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-6=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-10-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-7=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-11-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-8=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-13-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-9=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JPSBookPics-17-scaled.jpg\"\n data-image-10=\"\">\n</galleryblock>\n\n\n<p>While both ‘Jurassic’ Visual History books were filled with production artwork and other images from the entire franchise, this book is only focused on the first film. Despite the included script being essentially the film that made it to the screen, <strong>the pages are filled with seemingly endless concept art, storyboards, and blueprints that cover many iterations</strong>. These materials transport the reader into the film’s art department during the creative process that helped shape the story just as much as the scripts did. This includes <strong>early designs by </strong><a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR6KrkVmtgg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>John Bell</strong></a><strong> for lead characters before the actors were cast, never-before-seen storyboards of the famous Main Road attack sequence by </strong><a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QU6c9k06E5U&amp;list=PLIACT8MUZTgO8sUxGD5Bjp6B-CypDwYs6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>David Lowery</strong></a><strong>, a pair of slides from the lunch room scene by </strong><a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKbsmM1kFpE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Caroline Quinn</strong></a><strong>, and numerous artwork showcasing the omitted river and helicopter attack sequences</strong>. All the concept artwork is credited to each artist; however, the storyboards were tricky to identify given several artists often worked on just a single sequence. I’ve been a massive fan of ‘Jurassic Park’ ever since I saw it at my local drive-in when I was 6 years old (<em>which featured <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/YuccaValleyDrive-InSign-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">a sign</a> that looks <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/JurassicWorldDominionDrive-InSign-scaled.jpg\" target=\"_blank\">suspiciously familiar</a> to those who have seen the extended cut of ‘Jurassic World: Dominion.’</em>). I went on to create <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http://jurassictime.trescom.org/\" target=\"_blank\">Jurassic Time</a>, producing <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQWjrFih120&amp;list=PLIACT8MUZTgNhBuKre7B8d50f-MJXsGmc\" target=\"_blank\">various</a> <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw8ktF5El5s&amp;list=PLIACT8MUZTgO-FkTsaFcopzuHq0dm_mxC\" target=\"_blank\">programs</a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://jurassictime.wixsite.com/memoirs/special-interviews\" target=\"_blank\">conducting interviews</a> with people who worked on the films. I’ve also written <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://jurassicoutpost.com/jurassic-park-production-designer-rick-carters-immersive-art-exhibit-is-now-open/\" target=\"_blank\">many articles</a> for <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http://jurassicoutpost.com\" target=\"_blank\">Jurassic Outpost</a> since 2021. I was also a consultant for <a href=\"https://www.criterionchannel.com/videos/journey-to-the-beginning-of-time-u-s-release\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Criterion’s release</a> of Karel Zeman’s classic prehistoric film <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIRD0BkRGVs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">‘Journey To The Beginning Of Time’</a> and the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://jurassicoutpost.com/jurassic-park-soundtrack-by-john-williams-gets-a-new-2-cd-release/\" target=\"_blank\">re-release of the ‘Jurassic Park’ soundtrack</a> from <a href=\"https://lalalandrecords.com/jurassic-park-limited-edition-2-cd-set\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">La-La Land Records</a>.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, being asked by James Mottram to join him in the production of <a href=\"http://amzn.to/3qFM9VY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this book</a> was a dream come true. I have always been entranced by the many scripts of ‘Jurassic Park,’ as well as the thousands of artwork that was created before cameras ever rolled. After I read the original ‘Making Of Jurassic Park’ book, I was obsessed with peeking further behind the curtain to see the creative process of how it was all done. Over the years, I collected hard to find documents and artwork that would have otherwise been lost in time. Several of these materials, along with my own insights, enhanced this book’s content. To be associated with a book like this, for my favorite film, is something I will be eternally thankful for.</p>\n\n\n\n<center><div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/Astrid-Derrick-1024x725.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-21263\" width=\"570\" height=\"403\" srcset=\"https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/Astrid-Derrick-1024x725.jpg 1024w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/Astrid-Derrick-300x213.jpg 300w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/Astrid-Derrick-768x544.jpg 768w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/Astrid-Derrick-1536x1088.jpg 1536w, https://controlroom.jurassicoutpost.com/app/uploads/2023/10/Astrid-Derrick.jpg 1763w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 570px) 100vw, 570px\" /></figure></div></center>\n\n\n\n<p>Another fan is given special mention for helping with this book: Astrid Vega (pictured with me, above, in 2018). She once ran <a href=\"http://www.youtube.com/@TheJPCollection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Jurassic Park Collection</a>, until she sadly passed away in 2019. Astrid was a collector of many production materials that she shared with fans for years, and thanks to her, some of those are now showcased in this book.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><em>DIGITAL E-BOOK EDITION ALSO AVAILABLE</em></strong></p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the <a href=\"http://amzn.to/3qFM9VY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">physical hardcover edition</a> is my preferred way to possess this unique book, there is also a <a href=\"https://amzn.to/3Q0T5Ha\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digital e-book version available separately</a>. This is a departure from both “Visual History” books, since those featured additional inserts that were referenced in the text that couldn’t be adapted in this format. Some may prefer a digital version for the cheaper price point and to avoid high shipping costs in certain areas of the world. E-books are also handy for quicker research, with the ability to find text in seconds. The way I see it, having a digital edition also available ensures all ‘Jurassic Park’ fans have a fair chance to seek a copy of this book!</p>\n\n\n\n<center><h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>THE PERFECT WAY TO CONCLUDE THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY!</strong></h2></center>\n\n\n\n<p>This year’s 30th anniversary of ‘Jurassic Park’ is coming to an end, and what better way to celebrate it than by experiencing every word of the film in this fully illustrated form?
