There are three distinct variations of Velociraptor which were cloned by InGen, not counting sexual dimorphism seen within each individual version. However, despite the surface level variations, each sub-species remains relatively similiar in terms of physical attributes. Each species is roughly 6 feet tall…

Did Jeff Goldblum Just Confirm That Dr. Ellie Sattler Will Return in Jurassic World 3?

Last week, while promoting his upcoming movie Isle of Dogs, Jeff Goldblum teased the potential return of Dr. Ellie Sattler in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. He told ET on the red carpet that he would be thrilled if the character returned:

Laura Dern has expressed for years now that she would happily return to the franchise, and with franchise veteran Jeff Goldblum now teasing it as a possibility, it might not be too long before we see paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler dealing with dinosaurs again.

In an interview with Andy Cohen, Jeff Goldblum further teased the character’s return by hinting at their reunion in the Jurassic World 3, which is slated to release in June of 2021.

An caller on the show asked him to clarify if he was serious when he mentioned the return of her character, which led to a rather coy response. Watch for yourself below:

His demeanor definitely shifts when the question is asked, and his expression hints that this may be more than a rumour. The actor says:

“I don’t know for sure – I can’t divulge anything… but maybe she will… There’s going to be another one, which some people may or may not be in. That’s all I can say.”

This is by no means a confirmation of Ellie’s return in the upcoming sequel, but it is beginning to sound like both Laura Dern and Sam Neill may have a cameo appearance in Jurassic World 3. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!

  1. As long as none of the important characters we invested in end up randomly dying of dysentery as a throw away excuse for why they don’t appear…

    1. Agreed. Alan would be fine if Neill doesn’t want to come back on account of him and Ellie being separated in the third film, plus they’d never do anything to him off-screen.

This may be silly, but I think of a character like Sarah Harding and worry that they’ll either say her and Malcolm separated, or she was killed while documenting wildlife. I know the fandom is divisive when it comes to Sarah, but hell, I liked her *and* the relationship she had with Ian (it’s bad enough they split up Grant and Sattler).

    2. If any of the classic characters DO die, at least have it be important to the story, and have it have some meaning. That’s my only requirement for that sort of thing.

  2. I like it but if the story doesnt call for it she shouldnt return. That way it would just be fanservicing and possibly mess up Ellie’s arc across the films.

  3. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just Goldblum trying to stir up excitement despite knowing next to nothing about the sixth film. Still, whether he’s spewing smoke or actually does know substantial information, I *really* hope he’s right! Sattler is too good a character for that throwaway cameo in Jurassic Park 3 to be her final appearance in the franchise, ESPECIALLY when Laura Dern has vocally expressed a desire to return more than once. How great would it be if the main three (or at least Sattler and Malcolm, if Neill doesn’t want to return) from the original trilogy return to join forces with Owen and Claire? I’d be all over that, assuming it’s written well. Goldblum’s cameo in Fallen Kingdom could be a precursor to a bigger return in the final installment. While I don’t want to hold my breath too much, it’s hard not to get excited at the possibility.

  4. I just really want to see most of the Jurassic Park cast back together again for the final movie. Lex, Tim, Grant, Ellie, and Sattler. Would be a great way to end off the trilogy and that of the original Jurassic Park trilogy.

      1. Yeah the joseph mazzello who played Tim is still an actor and also directs as well now.

Ariana Richards who played Lex doesn’t act anymore. She was in the Tremors films and then became a painter.

It would be cool if they had everyone back or at least had a cameo. I would love to see Ellie back as well as Dr. Grant. Sarah harding would be cool or even Vince Vaughns character Nick pop up.

    1. Barry is a strange cause. He was suppoused to be best pal of Owen according to Colin Treverrow, but it seems it didn’t work between those actors.

  5. Three of my thoughts…

    1) They better not make a death to the important characters as an excuse…
    2) I hope those characters that come to play an important role will have something interesting as a solution or cause to another important role…
    3) Add some FUNNY dialogue…

(I think a lot of Jurassic Park fans enjoyed the funny scenes and dialogue)

  6. Seeing Sam and Laura in the third entry (and presumably the final film) would be a nice way to close out the series. I don’t want them playing major roles though.

  7. Goldblum just confirmed that his role is limited to only one scene (if it wasn’t know already).

Would love to see a return of Sattler as well- the storytelling possibilities are endless. Her character would fit naturally as a member of the Dino Protection Group, for example.

  8. I wouldn’t say no, if she was fit in the plot cleverly.

I’d have been amazing to see Alan Grant getting familiar with Blue considering his fear of velociraptors. If Blue survived JW:FK of course. I hope she will.

  9. if Ellie returns hopefully that means Alan returns too… it’s a slim possibility but it’s not out of the question.

  10. Sattler is a perfect character to bring back. She isn’t the star of Jurassic park, but she is definitely a fan favorite.

  11. If these characters must return give them a good reason to do so. Otherwise it’s like beating a dead horse. The mere fact that they have a fan following isn’t the best justification. The million dollar question, what can they DO to help the new main cast?

    1. This was the exact reasoning they had with originally making Jurassic Park 4, I think. They didn’t want them back for fan-service sake. Let’s hope they remember that, if they bring her back.

I would still like to see her back!

  12. I have no difficulty believing they’re going to at least try to get the main trio back together for the final installment of the JW trilogy. Just hope they have a good idea to do so.

  13. It better be a good reason that they bring her back.
I really can’t belive the 6th film will be the final in the series.
Now that the Dinos are being taken off the island there is so much possibility with the story.
Makes me curious where there are taking this. They really shouldn’t stop making these movies.
Maybe after jw3 they will wait like 10 years and revamp things and take it back to Nublar.

    1. I’m hoping it’s not… but rather than sequels ad nauseum, I’d rather see them do stand-alones set in the same universe, like origin stories and such. Think “Muldoon: A Jurassic Park Story,” to do a Star Wars comparison.

And for the love of all that’s holy, sic Blue and Rexy on anybody who even considers letting Jar Jar Abrams pee in our happy little pool.

  14. I’d prefer to see Alan, Ian, and Sattler all together one more time. Their chemistry was amazing. A huge part of why the first one is still the best ( among other reasons ).

  15. I’m wondering, why Ian? Sure he wrote a book after the JP incident, but apparently so did Grant (see tanker convo between Eric and Alan. JP3). And from the sounds of it Ian only gets a few lines in one scene…

    1. Silly me… I know why. He was more popular amongst mainstream audiences than Grant. And so he becomes the lure for the masses.

  16. I personally would like to see Roland Tembo return, even though he “doesn’t want to spend any more time in the company of death.” I think they should also bring in Gerry and Jess Harding, we haven’t seen Gerry since the first movie, and he didn’t die. Jess could be a good addition.
    Those are just my thoughts.
(Also, did Dodgson die in canon? If not, we could bring him back with another scheme. What do you think?)

    1. The return of both Roland Tembo and Lewis Dodgson seems highly unlikely, unless the roles would be recast. Pete Postlethwaite, who played Roland Tembo, died in 2011. Cameron Thor, who appeared as Dodgson, is serving a prison sentence for the abuse of a minor.

In the films’ canon, Dodgson only appears once, and there’s no mention of him in the other films. The character could very well be alive.

In the second novel the character returns and eventually dies, killed by the infant Tyrannosaurs. His death was the inspiration for the young Tyrannosaurus killing Peter Ludlow on board the ship in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

As roles have never been recast in this franchise before, I doubt they would do so for these characters. Considering the direction the Jurassic World films appear to be headed, the chances of seeing them make a comeback appear slim. I don’t their characters would fit in these films.

    2. Tembo’s unlikely, Pete Postlethwait is deceased. Cameron Thor (Dodgson) is out as a convicted child molester, and Hollywood’s blacklisted Gerry Molen for Wrongthink as a practicing Mormon.

  17. As much as I’d like it, it seems unlikely. Even Jeff Goldblum seems to only be there as a small cameo. The biggest problem is the same one that Lost World and JP3 had. Why would they go back? Hell JP3 was down to kidnapping.

I’m a bit disappointed that Goldblum’s role is seemingly so small. I was hoping he would be fighting from the mainland. But he seems to only have a single scene.
